When Did the National Republican Party Get So Weird?
I know this page it is a little tiny effort compared to some labor intensive sites on the World Wide Web. It all began It was 2005 when I saw that this URL, <www.ejectbush.com>, had been dropped, along with a handful of other dated dot com political domains. An obvious typographical error for "Elect Bush," the name seemed to call out to me. "Bid on me for $16.50," it said. "Maybe Jeb will run." "Maybe W. will be impeached," a little voice inside my mind whispered. Well, I bought that little dot com name but I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. This site has been on, and off, then on again several times. Now, one day post CNN Debate Regarding Religion (or whatever one calls that) it is back again. I think that did it for me: No Bush Clone in the White House!
You see, I am a registered Republican. I was a Republican back when Republicans were Republicans. I was five when my aunt told me Rudyard Kipling's If was written aout Ike. I liked Ike. I even (gasp) voted for George Bush (the first time). I cried with joy and pride at Arnold's RNC convention speech: "What does it mean to be a Republican?" he asked. "fiscal responsibility, bootstrap pulling, low taxes, small business, a cloth coat and as little government as possible…" Oh, I agreed with everything he said and everything I imagined he said. Yes! Yes! But, as I turned off the TV, the irony struck: hey that wasn't exactly what we got when we elected W. "Damn," I asked myself. "What happened? When did Republican Party get so very weird?" Recently, after having my letters to DC largely ignored, I decided to develop this as a cute little parody site. One can always hope for a few dollars from tee shirt sales. But as I sat staring at my web site program on the screen, one thing seemed clear: the days for laughing about this mess were over.
The W. saga continues: The CNN Religion Debate . . .
